AKC Registered purebred dogs are judged according to their standard of structure, appearance, temperament and behavior. To determine if those dogs have correct form and can function to do what they were originally bred to do. (herder or hunter, guardian, companion, etc) In conformation dogs are competing to achieve a title of champion, which originally the competition and title was used to determine dogs worthy of being part of a breeding program.
Obedience:
Dogs can achieve titles at increasing difficulty levels, working with their handler to obediently perform tasks that might come up in everyday situations: Heeling or walking at the handler's side, sitting and lying down, standing for examination, and staying in place when told, etc .As the levels go up in difficulty more complicated tasks are required like fetching, jumping over obstacles, finding an article that has been handled by their owner, etc. Dogs can earn titles at all the levels.
Rally Obedience:
Rally is a titling event in which the dog and handler work together as a team to go through a course that is labeled with direction signs indicating specific movements and actions by dog and handler. The dog must work closely and smoothly with the handler while performing heeling, turning, weaving, jumping, backing, etc.

Agility is an extremely athletic event for both dog and handler.
Scent Work:
Scent Work is an event open to all breeds of dogs which uses a canines' incredible sense of smell to work closely with their handler mimicking the work of law enforcement or rescue detection dog teams. In AKC scent work, the dogs are searching for odors consisting of natural oils such as birch, anise, and clove. Scent work is a titling event with progressively more difficult levels and searches covering different elements such as interior, exterior, containers, and buried.

Ring Practice for AKC events and Barn Hunt
The Club provides practice for participating in various dog events with appropriate equipment and set-up, providing encouragement and suggestions for improvement as well as simulated judging to give a feeling of practice and participation in actual events. Ring practice is open to the community and is offered free, but a donation is greatly appreciated.
Barn Hunt: Not an AKC event
Barnhart is a titling event based on the centuries old role of dogs in helping keep vermin at bay. All breeds of dogs can participate in searching for rats in courses designed of bales of straw simulating stacked hay in a barn. The courses and number of rats to be found increase in difficulty at each level. No rats are ever harmed - they are safe in aerated PVC tubes.
